Data Assimilation of AOD with LOTOS

Within the framework of the TROPOSAT programme a number of contributions are envisaged.

1.    Improvement of the Chemical Transport Model LOTOS, a 3-D Eulerian grid model covering Europe, with special emphasis on windblown dust, see salt and biogenic and anthropogenic secondary organic aerosols

2.    Further development of the data-assimilation scheme: increase in computational speed and analysis of simpler schemes like optimal interpolation to arrive at operational systems

3.    Provision by LOTOS of chemical consistent concentrations to improve retrieval of AOD, NO2 and ozone.

4.    Development of aerosol added value products using AOD from different satellites and instruments and ground level observations, with data-assimilation and the LOTOS-model. This activity will be undertaken in close interaction with the various user communities, including both scientific and institutional users, contributing to GMES
